Assistant Professor, Dept. of Classics, University of Chicago
As a KAMBE co-director, Dr. Catherine Kearns uses geophysics, field survey, excavation and geospatial analysis to identify Iron Age rural settlements, most recently at the site of Kalavasos Vounaritashi. Her broader research examines the intersections of social and environmental change in Mediterranean landscapes, with an emphasis on how Iron Age communities in Cyprus adapted their land-use practices, rural economies, and responded to climate change. Dr. Kearns is particularly interested in the political and social aspects of landscape transformation and how historical evidence can inform contemporary discussions on human-environment relationships.
